Thank you so much! I am so incredibly honored by this award. You guys were my first group of students when I got to Babson. I was so nervous when I first started teaching you, but right away, you made me feel like I had found a home here at Babson.
When I think of this generation of students, one word comes to mind: HOPE. I have so many hopes for you all. To the families of our students, I hope you know that I come to campus on move in days and see you say good-bye to these kids. I hope you know that I recognize the trust that you are placing in us to shepherd these special students through this remarkable time in their lives. To my students, I hope you know that when I see you, I feel encouraged and optimistic. I hope you know that I believe in you and your abilities to change the world for the better. I also hope you know that you have a great responsibility. When my children are your age, you will be the ones in charge and you will be the ones running the businesses and the schools and the government. I hope that you will create a world that is better and braver and is open for my own children. I hope you do the brave hard things. I hope you always remember to leave everything better than you found it. I hope you remember that you all have a voice and there are many of us that want to hear it I hope that you remember to be fully present and to enjoy the magical moments in this life and to embrace the challenging ones because there are lessons in all of them.
I also hope that as you curate the soundtrack of your lives, on down days that you hear these lyrics to my new favorite song:
When the sharpest words wanna cut me down
I’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out
I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I’m meant to be, this is me
Look out ’cause here I come
And I’m marching on to the beat I drum
I’m not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me.
I hope you never apologize for who you are. For you are brave, you are mighty, you are good and kind, you are fierce, and you are warriors. I hope you know how honored I am to be a part of your story.
