Money Request Information:
Your portfolio with Freedman Financial (LPL, other outside investments) is invested in stocks, bonds, mutual funds, bond funds, ETFs, money markets, etc.
- When you request money from your account(s), we need to sell those investments by placing trades.
- Trading is only done when the stock market is open weekdays, between 9:30am – 4:00pm EST. Once a trade is placed it can take 1-2 days for it to “settle”, making the cash available in your account(s).
- From there we request money be sent to your bank through an electronic deposit (ACH) or for a check to be sent.
- Money requested by ACH will arrive in your bank, anywhere from 0-2 days later depending on your particular bank.
- Checks are mailed directly from LPL Financial in Fort Mill, South Carolina via the US Postal Service, those can take anywhere from 3-14 business days to arrive at your address of record.
The exchanges typically operate from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET on business days. They will close early, at 1 p.m. ET, on three occasions in 2023: the day before Independence Day, the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve.
Bond market and bank holidays differ
Bond traders follow a different holiday calendar under guidelines set by the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association, a trade group that represents securities firms, banks and asset management companies. U.S. bond markets close on 9 of the 10 days the stock exchanges are silent, including Juneteenth, and also on Columbus Day (Monday, Oct. 9).
The bond markets shut down early six times in 2023: at noon ET on Good Friday and at 2 p.m. ET on the Friday before Memorial Day, the day before Independence Day, the day after Thanksgiving, and the last business days before Christmas and New Year’s Eve (Dec. 22 and 29, respectively).
The stock market calendar also differs from the Federal Reserve System holiday schedule followed by most U.S. banks. The Fed observes Columbus Day and Veterans Day (which in 2023 falls on a Saturday), does not take Good Friday off and does not have any formally scheduled early closing days.
